Travel health a straight run north of the city centre

If you live, study or work in NE1, the practical problem with a travel appointment is rarely the appointment. It is the six-week wait at the surgery and the cost of parking anywhere central. We are sixteen minutes north, we can usually see you the same week, and the parking outside is free.

For NE1, where trips get booked late

Newcastle city centre is the commercial and student heart of the region, with two universities inside walking distance of each other and around 30,000 people living in the postcode itself. It is also the part of the city where travel is booked at the shortest notice. Students and young professionals tend to find a cheap flight, take it, and think about the health side afterwards, which is a perfectly normal way to travel and simply means the timeline is tight.

The other thing about the centre is how close it is to leaving the country. Newcastle International Airport is a short run west, and we sit on the north edge of the city between the two. If you have found out ten days before a flight that a destination needs something, you are not out of options.

What a travel consultation actually involves

A travel appointment is a risk assessment first and an injection second. A pharmacist goes through your itinerary against current NaTHNaC and WHO country advice, then works out what is genuinely recommended for the trip you are actually taking.

  • Where you are going, including which regions and which cities, not just the country on the ticket.
  • When you travel and for how long, because season and length of stay change the answer.
  • What you will be doing there: city hotels, rural travel, trekking, volunteering, working with animals, staying with family.
  • Your health history, any long-term conditions, pregnancy, and anything that affects your immune system.
  • What you have already had and when, so you are not given something twice.

Timing

Six to eight weeks before departure is the comfortable window. Several courses need more than one dose spaced across weeks, and starting early means you finish on schedule rather than partway. If you are flying sooner, book anyway. There is nearly always something worth giving, and we will tell you plainly what will have taken effect by the time you go and what will not.

What to bring

A rough itinerary, your passport if a certificate is involved, and any record you have of previous vaccinations. A screenshot from the NHS App is fine. If you have nothing at all, that is workable too.

Why Newcastle city centre travellers choose us

Two things matter to people coming from NE1. The first is speed. A lot of city centre travel is booked inside a month, and the honest answer to a tight timeline is not to pretend everything is fine, but to work out what can still be usefully given and say clearly what will not have taken effect. That is a better conversation than a six-week wait for an appointment that lands after your flight.

The second is budget. If you are a student on a volunteering placement or a research trip, you do not want to be talked into a list of things your itinerary does not call for. We would rather tell you what is genuinely recommended for where you are actually going and leave the rest alone. See our booking page for current rates so you know where you stand before you come.

Worth saying plainly: we are not in the city centre, and that is the point. There is no controlled zone, no multi-storey and no ticket to buy. You drive fifteen minutes out of the noise and park at the door, which for most people is faster door to door than crossing town on a weekday afternoon.

Getting to Unit 5, Middleton North from Newcastle city centre

It is a straight run north. From the centre, take the A167 north and stay with it as it climbs out of town, or use the B1318 Great North Road which takes you up through Gosforth and out the other side into Newcastle Great Park. If you would rather stay on a dual carriageway the whole way, the A1 does the job and drops you at Great Park from the west side. The distance is a little over four miles and the drive is around sixteen minutes, longer at rush hour on the A167.

We are at Unit 5, Middleton North, Wagonway Drive, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE13 9BH, with free patient parking directly outside. Newcastle Central Station, Haymarket and Monument serve the city centre end of the journey if you are travelling in from further afield first, but from NE1 itself this is a drive or a taxi rather than a Metro trip. Great Park is not on the Metro line itself. The nearest stops are Kingston Park and Regent Centre, and it is a short taxi from either, which is why most people from town simply drive and use the free parking at the door.

Most people are done inside half an hour, including the consultation. You leave knowing what was given, what is still due and what to do about anything needing a second dose. Book online or call 0191 447 3839.

What you get

What the appointment covers

One appointment, an honest answer, and no upsell on things you do not need.

Destination risk assessment

An itinerary-specific review against current NaTHNaC and WHO advice, not a generic checklist. Where you are going, when, for how long, and what you will actually be doing there.

The travel vaccines people actually need

Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Rabies, Meningitis ACWY, Japanese Encephalitis, Cholera and Polio, held in stock.

Hajj and Umrah certificates

Meningitis ACWY administered and certified the same day, which is what a Saudi visa application asks for.

Antimalarial advice

Whether your destination needs antimalarial tablets, and what taking them involves. Antimalarials are prescription-only medicines and are subject to assessment.

Families and groups

Children, couples and whole families planned together, so everyone travels on the same schedule rather than in three separate appointments.

One appointment where possible

We give what can safely be given on the day and tell you plainly if a course needs a second visit, rather than booking you back in by default.

How it works

Three steps from booking to travelling

Book, come in, get what you need. Most people are done inside half an hour.

Why Newcastle city centre travellers choose us

The city centre is where the short-notice trips come from: students, postgraduates and young professionals booking flights a fortnight out, plus anyone flying from Newcastle International, which is a short run west of us. It is a clean sixteen-minute run north on the A167 or the B1318 through Gosforth, and the parking outside our door is free, which is more than the city centre can offer.
