Travel vaccinations for Cramlington, without driving into Newcastle

Cramlington has plenty of people travelling and very little on its doorstep to sort them out. We are a GPhC registered pharmacy and clinic at the north edge of Newcastle, roughly fourteen minutes down the road, with same-day appointments and free parking directly outside. No referral, no city centre, no waiting six weeks for a surgery slot.

A travel clinic for a town that has not had one

Cramlington is a post-war new town in south-east Northumberland, planned and built around industrial and pharmaceutical employment, and now home to around 39,000 people. It is one of the largest towns in the county and one of the youngest in feel: lots of young families, lots of people working rotating shifts at the big employers on the estates, and a steady stream of holidays booked around a rota rather than around a school calendar.

What Cramlington does not have is much in the way of private travel health. In practice that means residents drive somewhere for it, and until now that somewhere has usually been the middle of Newcastle. We sit between the two, at the north edge of the city, which turns a city-centre trip into a short run down the road.

What a travel consultation actually involves

A travel appointment is a risk assessment first and an injection second. A pharmacist goes through your itinerary against current NaTHNaC and WHO country advice, then works out what is genuinely recommended for the trip you are actually taking.

  • Where you are going, including which regions and which cities, not just the country on the ticket.
  • When you travel and for how long, because season and length of stay change the answer.
  • What you will be doing there: city hotels, rural travel, trekking, volunteering, working with animals, staying with family.
  • Your health history, any long-term conditions, pregnancy, and anything that affects your immune system.
  • What you have already had and when, so you are not given something twice.

Timing

Six to eight weeks before departure is the comfortable window. Several courses need more than one dose spaced across weeks, and starting early means you finish on schedule rather than partway. If you are flying sooner, book anyway. There is nearly always something worth giving, and we will tell you plainly what will have taken effect by the time you go and what will not.

What to bring

A rough itinerary, your passport if a certificate is involved, and any record you have of previous vaccinations. A screenshot from the NHS App is fine. If you have nothing at all, that is workable too.

Why Cramlington travellers choose us

The single biggest thing we hear from Cramlington is about hours. A large share of the town works patterns that do not line up with a standard surgery day, whether that is nights, four on four off, or an early that finishes when most clinics are closing. Being told the only travel appointment is at half past ten on a Tuesday morning is not a small inconvenience when it costs you a shift. We plan around that, and we would rather find a slot that fits your rota than have you book annual leave for a fifteen minute conversation.

The second thing is families. Cramlington skews young, and a lot of the trips we plan are two adults and two or three children going somewhere long-haul for a fortnight. Doing everyone together in one visit is the difference between one afternoon and three. We will tell you at the appointment whether a course can be finished before you fly, so nobody finds out at the airport that they are partway through.

Finally, there is the drive itself. People are used to the idea that anything private means going into town, paying to park and building the whole thing into a half day. It does not, here. You come south, you park outside, you come in.

Getting to Unit 5, Middleton North from Cramlington

The easiest route from most of Cramlington is the A189 spine road south, which is the road most of the town uses to get towards Newcastle anyway. Stay on it as it runs south and come across into Newcastle Great Park. The alternative, if you are on the east side of town, is the A19 and then the A1 south, coming off at Great Park. It is about four and a half miles and roughly fourteen minutes, and neither route takes you anywhere near the city centre.

We are at Unit 5, Middleton North, Wagonway Drive, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE13 9BH. There is free patient parking directly outside, so you park, walk a few steps and you are in. Cramlington rail station serves the town for longer journeys, but for this one the drive is the sensible option.

Most appointments take under half an hour. You leave knowing what was given, what is still due and what to do about it. Book online or call 0191 447 3839, and see our booking page for current rates.

What you get

What the appointment covers

One appointment, an honest answer, and no upsell on things you do not need.

Destination risk assessment

An itinerary-specific review against current NaTHNaC and WHO advice, not a generic checklist. Where you are going, when, for how long, and what you will actually be doing there.

The travel vaccines people actually need

Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Rabies, Meningitis ACWY, Japanese Encephalitis, Cholera and Polio, held in stock.

Hajj and Umrah certificates

Meningitis ACWY administered and certified the same day, which is what a Saudi visa application asks for.

Antimalarial advice

Whether your destination needs antimalarial tablets, and what taking them involves. Antimalarials are prescription-only medicines and are subject to assessment.

Families and groups

Children, couples and whole families planned together, so everyone travels on the same schedule rather than in three separate appointments.

One appointment where possible

We give what can safely be given on the day and tell you plainly if a course needs a second visit, rather than booking you back in by default.

How it works

Three steps from booking to travelling

Book, come in, get what you need. Most people are done inside half an hour.

Most people are done inside half an hour. You leave knowing what was given, what is still due, and what to do about anything that needs a second dose.

Local

Why Cramlington travellers choose us

Cramlington is a town of nearly 39,000 people with almost no private travel health provision of its own, so most residents currently drive into Newcastle for it. We are four and a half miles south, about fourteen minutes on the A189 spine road, which stops short of the city entirely. Free parking at the door and appointments that work around shift patterns rather than assuming a nine to five.
