Travel health for Gosforth, eight minutes up the road

Gosforth travellers are used to being able to sort things properly and quickly, and a travel appointment should be no different. We are a GPhC registered pharmacy and clinic in Newcastle Great Park, just north of you, with same-day appointments and no referral needed. You tell us where you are going, we tell you what you actually need.

A travel clinic on Gosforth's doorstep

Gosforth sits immediately south of us, which makes it the nearest sizeable place on our list and, in practice, our own doorstep. From the top of Gosforth High Street you are eight minutes from our door. It is Newcastle's most established suburb, and one of the few places in the region with a genuine independent high street rather than the usual run of the same chains, with a population of around 23,000 that skews heavily professional and family.

That shows up in how Gosforth travels. We see a lot of long-haul holidays booked well in advance, and a lot of multi-generational trips where grandparents, parents and children are all going to the same place on the same flight and all need sorting before it. Those are the trips that benefit most from a proper conversation, because three generations means three different vaccination histories and one fixed departure date.

What a travel consultation actually involves

A travel appointment is a risk assessment first and an injection second. A pharmacist goes through your itinerary against current NaTHNaC and WHO country advice, then works out what is genuinely recommended for the trip you are actually taking.

  • Where you are going, including which regions and which cities, not just the country on the ticket.
  • When you travel and for how long, because season and length of stay change the answer.
  • What you will be doing there: city hotels, rural travel, trekking, volunteering, working with animals, staying with family.
  • Your health history, any long-term conditions, pregnancy, and anything that affects your immune system.
  • What you have already had and when, so you are not given something twice.

Timing

Six to eight weeks before departure is the comfortable window. Several courses need more than one dose spaced across weeks, and starting early means you finish on schedule rather than partway. If you are flying sooner, book anyway. There is nearly always something worth giving, and we will tell you plainly what will have taken effect by the time you go and what will not.

What to bring

A rough itinerary, your passport if a certificate is involved, and any record you have of previous vaccinations. A screenshot from the NHS App is fine. If you have nothing at all, that is workable too.

Why Gosforth travellers choose us

The most common reason people come to us from NE3 is simple: they rang the surgery, were offered a travel appointment six weeks out, and have a flight before then. Gosforth is a place where people are used to a decent standard of service and will not accept being told to wait when the trip is already booked. You can usually be seen the same week, and often the same day.

The second reason is the shape of the trips themselves. A three-week tour of South East Asia with two teenagers, or a family visit to relatives abroad with an elderly parent along, is not a one-line answer. We would rather plan the whole party in one visit and give everyone the same schedule than see people piecemeal and leave someone half done. If a course cannot be completed before you fly, you will be told that at the appointment rather than discovering it at the second visit.

We also try to be straight about what you do not need. Not every destination needs everything, and part of the value of a proper assessment is being told that a vaccine on someone else's list is not on yours.

Getting to Unit 5, Middleton North from Gosforth

You have two easy routes and both are short. The straightforward one is to head north on the B1318 Gosforth High Street, carry on out through the top of Gosforth, and come into Newcastle Great Park. The alternative, if you are already on the bypass, is one junction north on the A1 and then west into the development. Either way it is about two and a half miles and roughly eight minutes outside of the school run.

We are at Unit 5, Middleton North, Wagonway Drive, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE13 9BH. There is free patient parking directly outside the door, so there is no multi-storey, no ticket machine and no walking at the far end. If you are coming by Metro from the Gosforth end, Regent Centre is the nearest stop on that stretch, though most people from NE3 drive because it is quicker than the change.

Most appointments take under half an hour from walking in to walking out. For a lot of Gosforth patients that makes it an errand rather than a trip. Book online or call 0191 447 3839, and see our booking page for current rates.

What you get

What the appointment covers

One appointment, an honest answer, and no upsell on things you do not need.

Destination risk assessment

An itinerary-specific review against current NaTHNaC and WHO advice, not a generic checklist. Where you are going, when, for how long, and what you will actually be doing there.

The travel vaccines people actually need

Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Tetanus, Rabies, Meningitis ACWY, Japanese Encephalitis, Cholera and Polio, held in stock.

Hajj and Umrah certificates

Meningitis ACWY administered and certified the same day, which is what a Saudi visa application asks for.

Antimalarial advice

Whether your destination needs antimalarial tablets, and what taking them involves. Antimalarials are prescription-only medicines and are subject to assessment.

Families and groups

Children, couples and whole families planned together, so everyone travels on the same schedule rather than in three separate appointments.

One appointment where possible

We give what can safely be given on the day and tell you plainly if a course needs a second visit, rather than booking you back in by default.

How it works

Three steps from booking to travelling

Book, come in, get what you need. Most people are done inside half an hour.

01

Book online or call

Pick a slot and tell us where you are going, when, and for how long. It helps to know your rough itinerary, not just the country.

02

Come to Great Park

Unit 5, Middleton North, Wagonway Drive, NE13 9BH. Free parking directly outside. A pharmacist goes through your itinerary, your health history and what you have had before, then tells you what you need and what you do not.

03

Vaccinated and on your way

Most people are done inside half an hour. You leave knowing what was given, what is still due, and what to do about anything that needs a second dose.

Local

Why Gosforth travellers choose us

Gosforth is effectively our doorstep, two and a half miles and about eight minutes up the B1318 or one junction on the A1. We see a lot of long-haul family holidays and multi-generational trips from NE3, where three generations need to be on the same vaccination schedule before the same flight. Free parking directly outside means it is a short errand rather than an afternoon.
